What is Warisan KL?

Warisan KL is the vibrant heart of our capital – where history, culture, and creativity come together to shape a new, exciting future for Kuala Lumpur.

Located at the historic meeting point of the Klang and Gombak rivers, Warisan KL celebrates the rich heritage, stories and traditions that have helped define who we are as Malaysians.

Warisan KL is a culture-based urban rejuvenation initiative that revitalises Kuala Lumpur through the recovery and reimagining of built heritage as a foundation for a new, inclusive economy driven by culture, creativity, tourism and heritage.

It reflects a national commitment to innovation and inclusive urban development. The first ten flagship projects – led by DBKL, Think City, and key partners – will anchor transformation around Jalan Raja and Dataran Merdeka, catalysing economic and social renewal.

By breathing new life into this part of the city, Warisan KL is turning it into a lively hub for culture, creativity, and community – creating new jobs, attracting visitors, and encouraging investment. Why Warisan KL?

Downtown Kuala Lumpur holds over 500 heritage shophouses, colonial landmarks and post-Merdeka icons that reflect the city’s rich cultural identity.

However, the area has experienced decline – marked by the emigration of residents and businesses, neglected historic buildings, and a disconnect between old and new developments. Warisan KL aims to reclaim and revitalise the heart of KL by:
